Job Posting – Part-Time Fraser Valley Field Centre Coordinator

12-MONTH-LECTURER POSITION:
PART-TIME NITEP FRASER VALLEY FIELD CENTRE COORDINATOR

NITEP, UBC’s Indigenous Teacher Education Program has established a field centre at Seabird College in the Fraser Valley for a four-year period (2016-2020), pending sufficient student enrolment, and invites applications for a 12-Month-Lecturer (term) position to work as a Part-Time Field Centre Coordinator. This is a 40% appointment involving working 2 days a week.

Position Start Date: July 1, 2016 for one year, renewable for up to four years subject to satisfactory performance, student enrolment and funding availability

The NITEP Coordinator’s major responsibilities are to guide the professional
development of the NITEP students, to teach an educational seminar, to coordinate Fraser Valley Field Centre activities, and to facilitate Fraser Valley Field Centre, UBC and community relations.

The duties of the Coordinator include:

    1. Teach an educational seminar
    2. Coordinate and supervise students’ educational placements.
    3. Communicate with mentors/sponsor teachers.
    4. Coordinate centre learning activities and expenditures.
    5. Assist with program development as necessary.
    6. Communicate with local First Nation community representatives,
      Fraser Valley Field Centre Partnership Members, Seabird College, local school districts, First Nation Schools, and government officials.
    7. Complete occasional special assignments.

Part-Time Field Centre Coordinator Qualifications
NITEP Coordinators should qualify for a valid B.C. Teaching Certificate, must have current K-12 teaching experience, and knowledge and skills to work productively and respectfully with Aboriginal communities and students.

Priority is given to applicants who are/have:

    • Aboriginal or have knowledge of/experience working with Aboriginal
      people, preferably in the area in which the Centre is located.
    • Inter-personal skills, particularly in working closely with young adults
    • Teaching experience (2 years minimum);
    • Ability to teach Indigenous Education courses and education seminars;
    • Experience with Aboriginal people in an educational setting;
    • Experience working in K-12 education, teacher education and/or adult
      education; and
    • Strong organizational and planning skills.
